Federal Releases After Stark Custody
Federal and immigration custody is a network, not a single local building. A Stark County Jail entry may show transfer to a federal or immigration authority, but that entry proves only the end of county custody. The receiving authority determines where the person went and whether a later event was release, transfer, removal processing, supervised release, or continued detention.
Use BOP only for federal prison records. Use ICE's locator only for immigration detention. A federal pretrial defendant under U.S. Marshals Service authority may be housed in local, state, private, or federal space and may never appear in BOP Locator. The federal docket, responsible USMS district, and physical holding jail form the correct chain.
| Custody | Primary route | What a result means |
|---|---|---|
| BOP sentenced custody | BOP Inmate Locator | BOP status and release date |
| ICE detention | ICE ODLS | Immigration custody location if shown |
| USMS pretrial custody | Federal docket, USMS, holding jail | Case status and physical custodian |
| Stark jail transfer | Sheriff release log | Departure from county custody only |
Search BOP Release Records
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners released after 1982 and updates daily. Search by BOP Register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number. A name search supports exact first and last name with race, sex, and age filters. Number searches reduce same-name risk.
- Choose an identifier search when a federal number is known.
- Otherwise enter the exact name and useful filters.
- Compare identity and facility information before relying on a match.
- Read the Release Date and location together.
- Check another system if Stark records show a non-BOP transfer.
A past Release Date with location RELEASED means the person is no longer in BOP custody. A future date is projected. UNKNOWN means the confinement term is undetermined. BOP warns that a released person may remain on parole, supervised release, or in another correctional system. Pre-1982 records may require the National Archives.
The official BOP record explanation defines these limits. A BOP release does not establish the end of immigration, state, or local custody.
Search ICE Stark Transfers
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System offers two search modes. One uses the A-number and country of birth. Enter nine A-number digits, adding a leading zero when needed. The other uses exact first and last name, country of birth, and date of birth. Spelling and identity details matter.
ODLS is an immigration-custody locator, not a Stark County release archive. A no-match may reflect spelling, scope, age, lag, transfer, or retention limits. Confirm through the facility shown or ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. A Stark jail exit followed by ICE pickup is a transfer, not community release.
Do not infer immigration status from a missing result. Use the county destination field and exact receiving authority before choosing ICE as the search route.
USMS Stark Release Checks
USMS has no public historical released-person locator comparable to BOP. Federal pretrial prisoners can be housed in contracted local, state, private, or federal space. Because the Marshals Service manages a distributed network, an administrative office location is not proof of the physical jail.
Start with the federal docket or court clerk to identify the case event. Ask the responsible USMS district or attorney of record for the holding facility when appropriate, then contact that jail for physical processing. A release order can be followed by transport delay, another warrant, or transfer. Match the order with the holding jail's date, time, authority, and destination fields.
- Federal pretrial custody
- Detention while a federal case is pending, often in contracted space.
- Supervised release
- Federal community supervision after prison, distinct from BOP confinement.
- Detainer
- A notice that another authority may seek custody.
- Transfer
- Movement between custodians, not entry into the community.
Federal Release Record Fields
A sound record chain begins with the Stark Sheriff entry when the person left county custody. Ask for the release timestamp, authority, type, and destination. Then obtain the receiving record. BOP may show identity, register number, location, and Release Date. ICE may show a current immigration location. A federal docket can show detention or release orders, while the physical jail supplies processing time.
| Field | Use |
|---|---|
| Stark destination | Identifies the receiving authority |
| Federal identifier | Separates same-name records |
| BOP Release Date | Shows the BOP exit field |
| Federal court order | Explains the legal decision |
| Holding-jail timestamp | Shows physical processing |
| Receiving agency | Shows whether custody continued |
The Stark County release records path explains how to request the local entry. Keep each source within its own custody boundary.
BOP Locator Release Example
The official BOP locator screen shows the number and name search routes used for federal records.
The RELEASED label and past date address BOP custody only. Compare the result with the Stark transfer entry and any other sovereign's record before concluding that all confinement ended.
Federal Custody Contact Route
No local facility contact card can be published because no dedicated BOP, ICE, or USMS detention site was found in Stark County. Contact must follow the actual authority and facility identified in the record. This avoids sending a request to an administrative office that never held the person.

Federal pretrial custody: USMS custody and detention

When a locator returns no result, verify spelling and identifiers, then contact the office tied to the case. Do not treat a no-match as release proof.
Federal Release Verification Limits
BOP updates daily, but a database result can still be misread. ICE data has its own scope and timing. USMS custody may be invisible in BOP. The correct conclusion should name the system: released from BOP custody, no longer shown in ICE detention, or physically released by a named holding jail.
A person may remain under supervision after prison release. Another state, county, federal, or immigration authority may also hold the person. The best Stark-specific proof is a matched chain of the Sheriff's transfer entry, the federal or immigration record, and the actual custodian's release action.
Note: No federal or immigration locator serves as a universal search for every person who has left Stark County custody.
Matching Federal Release Identities
Identity checks must stay within the matched federal system. Compare a BOP register number, A-number, full name, date of birth, country of birth, and case details only as the portal permits. A shared name is not enough. If identifiers conflict, return to the Stark transfer entry or federal docket before describing the result. That record may reveal USMS authority rather than BOP or ICE.
Timing matters too. BOP says its locator updates daily, while an ICE location can change through transfer and a court order may precede physical processing. Record the date, system, and exact wording of each check. An old screenshot cannot certify present custody. For an exact exit time or destination, ask the current holding facility for its release or transfer entry.
Start with Stark's destination field whenever the federal path is uncertain. It can prevent a search in the wrong database and identify the office that should receive a focused request.
